Today kicks off a series “All about HPV”
Are you confused about what HPV is? What can happen to you if you “catch it? How do you get it? what about the vaccine, is it safe? You are the only one bewildered.
I am doing series of videos on HPV to help sort this all out.

Today, in video one I am going to answer 3 questions
1. What is HPV?
2. what are the types of HPV?
3. How do you get an HPV infection?

Question 1
What is HPV?
HPV or human papilloma virus is a group of about 150 relatetd virus’
It is named after the lesion it causes, papillomas or wart.
Questions 2
What are the different types of HPV?
HPV is numbered.
Then put into groups of how they are associated with cancer…..low risk and high risk.
Low risk to cx cancers or high risk to cx cancers.
There are about 40 low risk that cause warts mostly of the hands and feet.
HPV 6 and 11 are responsible for 90% of genital warts and are considered a low risk HPV.
Roughly 12 out of the 150 have been identified as high risk and causing cancer.
Question 3
How did you get infected with HPV?’
It is passed through skin to skin contact.
The most common way to get it is through sexual i.c. or hand to genital contact.
It can be spread even when an infected person has no visible signs or symptoms.
In a rare instance a mother can pass it to a baby at time of birth
There haven’t been any documented cases of people getting HPV from such as toilet seats. It’s not spread through blood or body fluids
• Hugging or holding hands
• Swimming in pools or hot tubs
• Sharing food or utensils
• Being unclean
