Burt Lancaster's last western, "Cattle Annie & Little Britches" (1981), co-starring Rod Steiger, may have top-billed these two Oscar winning actors, but it was the cast of young "stars to be" that gives the film its special allure today. In the title roles were Diane Lane as Little Britches and, making her film debut, Amanda Plummer as Cattle Annie. 27-year-old NY actor William Russ ("Boy Meets World") remembers the excitement of horseback riding in New York City in preparation for his Los Angeles audition. He passed the test and was whisked off to the location in Mexico to work with Lancaster, Steiger, Scott Glenn, Buck Taylor, rodeo champion Kenny Call and two fresh faced actresses in the true story of two teenage girls who join the Doolin-Dalton gang. The film was directed by Lamont Johnson and produced by Rupert Hitzig. Russ also discusses appearing as another outlaw in "The Young Riders," co-starring with his wife, series regular Clare Wren. Recorded January 15, 2019.
