The Chicken Year Month by Month: March

Описание к видео The Chicken Year Month by Month: March

In this series we will be following a year with our chickens month by month. We'll cover:
- What is happening to and with the chickens each month.
- What we're preparing for in coming months.
- Issues that we're on the look out for.

March is a very busy month for us. We've been concentrating on 4 tasks:
1) Here in the UK we've been experiencing high winds and storms coming into March so we've been taking action to ensure our chickens are protected.
2) Completing the fertility tests on our potential breeding cockerels. The results are in!
3) Administering a prophylactic worming treatment to the chickens. PLEASE NOTE: In the video we state there is a 7 day egg withdrawal period when treating with Flubenvet. In the UK this is not required however you should check the rules for your own country and the advice is not to sell or giveaway eggs during the treatment period as a medication has been given to the hens and once eggs have left your premises they are out of your control.
4) Mite watch - the warmer weather brings high risks of mites.

We breed Buff Orpington chickens and have kept them for a number of years.
