Tower of Strength: A Mohinder and Sylar Vid

Although my interest in Heroes has been put on temporary hiatus (mostly due to the BBCs erratic broadcasting schedule for Series 3!), this project was something I've been newly determined to finish. This surge in interest is mostly due to the wonderful Kaurseeker, who has prodded me several times to make good on my promise of a Heroes vid :). Thanks to her for the beta reading, and for the special technical assistance she gave me on this one, too :). It wouldn't look half so good without her!

I began making this in June/July last year, when I was still vidding on my old laptop, and I hadn't touched it again until a few weeks ago! In a way I was worried about going back to PC vidding with Premiere, having switched to a Mac, and it did take a bit of getting used to again. However, a few hours spent tidying up the loose ends, filling in some gaps and here it is; and I'm quite chuffed with the results.

The thing that kept me watching Heroes in series 1 was the fascinating dynamic between the enigmatic and murderous Gabriel Sylar Gray (Zachary Quinto) and the passionate yet logical Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy). When they are together onscreen, the screen almost catches fire! There's so much wonderful chemistry between them it's heavenly. For me, series 1 was all about their eyes, and there were plenty of longing stares between them. Unfortunately, Series 2 and 3 of the show didn't deliver as completely on this relationship, so I've kept this vid to season one footage only.

I do owe a debt of gratitude to Kuwdora at the LJ community Open Source Kiss for the very wonderfully suggestive video manips that occur at flashpoints throughout this vid - I think they work brilliantly at conveying the suppressed desire inherent in both Mohinder and Sylar throughout series 1, and compliment the already lovely Sylar/Mohinder moments from the show itself. Including them does make this vid a little more 'grown up' though, so please bear that in mind.


The narrative of this vid is mainly from Sylar's point of view - how Mohinder comes into his life and is both his strength and his downfall. There's the odd switch to Mohinder's point of view as the pace gets going, to show the attraction is more than a one sided thing. It could be seen as an AU - they're attracted, they have an affair and then both must face up to the consequences of that affair. Either way, its loaded with slash and suggestiveness!


The song itself is a favourite of mine, and conveys the kind of passion and frustration evident in an intense relationship, and its pulsating beat gave me a lot to think about, cutting wise! I'm surprised its not used more often for fanvids.
