Lionel 2025s are plentiful, reliable and a behemoth of a locomotive. An easy upgrade is to add a tender with railsounds like this one I purchased at a recent train show for only 8 bucks (seriously, the seller said he wouldn't take a dollar more!) Figured any tender with a board in it is worth risking that for so bought it and the railsounds works fine. I removed the Santa Fe shell it came with and put a Pennsy tender shell on it, dug out all my PA RR passenger cars, and put a 2025 on point. Took it for a few laps around my basement. I don't often run Lionel power on my basement layout but once in a while will wake up one of those old monsters and put em to work.
