Ulus was once the heart of old Ankara. The name means "tribe, nation" in Turkish.
It is now a predominantly commercial and tourist area made up of banks, malls, shops, hotels, businesses, restaurants, and many historical sites.
The most well-known historical structures here are the Roman's Temple of Augustus, Column of Julianus (362AD), Roman Bath, and Hacı Bayram Mosque.

1927 Victory Monument
The monument was a result of a nationwide fund drive organized by the journalist Yunus Nadi. After an international competition, the project of Heinrich Krippel from Austria was rewarded. The monument was inaugurated on 24 November 1927. It was restored in 2002.

Column of Julianus (362AD)
Julianus, the last pagan Roman emperor, declared war on the Persians in 362 and created a route that would pass through Ankara. Upon the news that the emperor would take a break on the way to the expedition and stay in the city, preparations began in the whole city, and the Julianus Column was erected to honour him.

Haji Bayram Veli or Wali (Turkish: Hacı Bayram-ı Veli) (1352–1430) was an Ottoman poet, Sufi saint, and the founder of the Bayrami Order.
The Haci Bayram district is located at the north-western part of the Citadel within the boundaries of the district of Ulus, Ankara.
The area, taking Hacı Bayram Mosque and Augustus Temple as the focal point, has a traditional historic fabric which also contains Ottoman and Early Republican Period buildings, as well as later-period ones. The district is located on a hill which is a tumulus, where the mosque and the temple are located on the top while the traditional fabric is scattered along the sloped hillsides.

The Temple of Augustus is thought to have been built around 25–20 AD. Besides being one of the most important Roman-period ruins in the city, it is also known for the Monumentum Ancyranum. This is an inscription about the works of Augustus, who was considered the first Roman emperor. It is the most complete copy of Res Gestae Divi Augusti that has survived to the present day, even as the original in Rome had disappeared.
