Over the next five weeks we will use our yoga practice as a way of exploring the five main pairs of meridian lines that flow through the body. The meridians are closely associated with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM for short), as well as acupuncture, but within our yoga practice we can apply something known as acupressure to stimulate these energetic channels. You’ll notice that the channels tend to come in pairs where one organ is associated more with a yang (think: fiery and strong) energy, while the other represents its yin (think: calm and soft) counterpart.

In this second week we’ll be exploring the Gallbladder (yang) and Liver (yin) meridians through a yang to yin flow that focuses on hip openers, spinal twists and side bends, which target these two meridians most directly. In TCM the liver and gallbladder store our blood and regulate the flow of Qi (the energy that flows through the meridians) through the body. On a more subtle level they are considered the seats of our soul.
