Hiking Breaks Interstate Park

The Breaks is a bi-state state park located in southeastern Kentucky and mostly in southwestern Virginia. This is one of only two Interstate parks in the nation. Breaks Interstate Park is also referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the South" It has around 4,500 acres of mountain scenery.

Today I hiked down to Russell Fork at the bottom of the canyon and back up near the state line overlook. Along the way, I passed several rock climbing areas, rock outcrops, and amazing tall rock walls and cliffs. This canyon is around 1600 feet deep and roughly five miles long. The hike along Russell Fork was refreshing. Russell Fork has carved the largest canyon east of the Mississippi.
