Описание к видео MP2002-342 Former President Truman Discusses the Recognition of Israel

In this Screen Gems out take, Harry S. Truman discusses his reasoning for wanting to establish a Jewish state. He recounts his feelings at the Potsdam Conference when he saw how the Nazis were treating the Jews, and hoping they could have a homeland. He talks about how the Arabs were compensated for the land in Palestine which was given up for Israel. He talks about how the Israeli republic is small but successful. Without naming it, he also discusses the Suez Crisis of 1956 and Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and without naming President Dwight Eisenhower, criticizes his actions during the Crisis.
