Pembroke Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Описание к видео Pembroke Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Pembrokeshire in South Wales is the town of Pembroke.

In the heart of the town is Pembroke Castle, built during the Norman Invasion of Wales in the 11th century. This was to be the birthplace of Henry VII of the House of Lancaster who essentially ended the War of the Roses by defeating Richard III and marrying Elizabeth of York, thus uniting the Houses of York and Lancaster to form the House of Tudor. A statue of Henry VII stands prominently on the bridge on Northgate Street near the castle.

Pembroke River runs just north of the town centre at which point it turns into a set of ponds, including Castle Pond around the castle and Mill Pond to the east of the bridge on Northgate Street. Two universities, one in Cambridge and one in Oxford, are named after Pembroke, as well as a dozen or more places in America.

Despite the name, it is not the county town of Pembrokeshire. That would be Haverfordwest. Why they didn't call it Haverfordwestshire is another question...
