Paint Thassos harbour with me in watercolour. I take a busy seaside photo and turn it into a simple, sunny scene. We look at a clear three value plan, how to connect shapes with shadows, and how warm against cool makes the light sing.
I show soft versus hard edges for depth, quick boat reflections that sit darker than the hulls, and lost and found ropes for sparkle. I also share a few tips on figures, drawing with purpose, and knowing when to stop so the painting stays fresh.
I work on cotton paper for clean washes and easy lifting. My palette is neutral tint, burnt umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, viridian green, spring green, cobalt green, cerulean blue, cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, lavender, alizarin crimson, cadmium red, light red, cadmium yellow, plus a touch of white paint. Sometimes I add quinacridone gold for extra warmth.
