Hi all
Today we are making some tinned fish biryani which is a firm favorite but also a meal that can be made for less than R100 to feed between 6 and 8 people. Adding boiled eggs fortifies the meal and adds a great bonus flavour.

Ingredients
1 400g can tinned fish (in tomato sauce)
1/2 cup oil
1 small onion, grated
2 green chillies (to taste)
1 stem curry leaves
3 small tomatoes, grated
1/2 tsp Jeera (cumin) seeds
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tsp crushed ginger and garlic
1 tsp rough salt

Biryani spices:
1 tsp saunf (fennel) seeds
3 sticks cinnamon
2 bay leaves
1 black elaichi (cardamom)
2 green elaichi (cardamom)
star anise
1 tbs mixed masala
1 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder
1 tsp mixed dhania (coriander) and jeera (cumin) powder
1 tsp garam masala

1 cup frozen peas
1/2 cup biryani dhal (masoor dhal), soaked overnight
juice of 1 lemon
thyme (for braising)
4 boiled eggs
2 cups rice, cooked to almost done - cooked with 1/2 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder and 1 tsp salt and a bay leaf

To garnish:
Fresh dhania (coriander)
Spring onions
Mint

Serve with some hot dhal and a carrot salad
