i was gonna upload this video when i got it but i may have. forgotten and never thought to do it until now. im doing it now because assessment is this weekend and i want to post those as well.

it's tradition to have a senior-only run of the show toward the end of every season (usually on the last rehearsal, before senior night). the staff always join in too and that's funny to see. i remember the one from my freshman year in 2022 (which i think was the first). even then, and in the years after, i thought about how cool it'd be that i'd get to have my own senior run someday and get to do all the silly fun bits. im glad that we got to do it on the football field this year instead of the track. we've not done it on the field SINCE my freshman yearr, so that's a nice full-circle moment. the senior run is always meant to be fun and silly, but mr. bryk always likes to add a true/real message or meaning behind it, and it's always been about performance energy. that's why he keeps himself mic'd up and yells and screams and does silly things the entire rep. your show won't look good if it doesn't look like you're having fun doing it. smile! connect with the audience! what does that mean? find someone (literally) in the audience and watch what they think. i've always loved seeing the reactions of the crowd during parts of a show, like the company front from this year. seeing someone react like WOW is so validating cause "YEAH, I KNOW RIGHT?? ISN'T THAT SO COOL???". it's when you realize the "show" aspect of a marching band show; you're performing for yourself and the band and for that score but you're also performing a performance. seeing people react to the cool things you're doing is awesome and is never captured in any of these videos. if you're not committed or having fun or enjoying anything, then that's not your best effort. if you're not even trying to sell the idea that you could be enjoying what you're doing, then you are not performing. at its core, we are in an activity originally meant to be a spectacle, so be spectacular. it's easy to forget that once you're the one on the field, all tired and sweaty and focused and such. one of my favorite parts of the marching band-aspect of marching band has always been the idea that we could do something that someone somewhere in that crowd could find amazing.

i was TIRED btw because we had just run 100 meters (the section leaders) and now we had to do this. and i used up so much energy during this run that i had a cramp by part 4 and it was so PAINFUL. when i keeled over and died at the end of the rep i might as well have. also shoutout to my third valve which kept sticking on this day.
