Matt here with another Daily Shave video and DE safety razor shave and soap review.

The Soap: Whispers from the Woods Araminta
This is an artisan soap from Black Springs, New South Wales, Australia that has been in business since 2014, but new to me. Skimming through their website, they got into soapmaking due to their commitment to sustainable living, which is reflected in the sourcing of their ingredients. This soap is steric acid based, contains vegitable based butters and oils like cocoa butter (an unusual ingredient in shaving soap), and avocado oil, but also contains “ethically sourced and cruelty free” lanolin. The lather is easy to generate, and is of the dense and peaky type. The predominant note is vetiver, which is a smoky, earthy and woody type, which is brightened by the lavender and mint (both very subtle components of the scent). The scent is straightforward, but still complex and nuanced, as well as natural smelling. The scent is medium to above average that intensifies to a 7/10 strength when lathered. I very much appreciate this well crafted soap, and have enjoyed using it.

The Brush: West Coast Shaving Infinity Brush with 26mm three band finest badger knot. This US artisan-made brush handle is a unique ergonomic and comfortable shape. It’s a stunning pour with some nice iridescence and depth. The knot is fairly dense but not a lather hog. The loft is set at the sweet spot giving it decent scrub and minimal floppiness. The fan splays easily and covers a lot of real estate. The knots will be available to purchase separately. This is a stunning brush offered at a competitive price. Look out for the weekly brush drops.

The Razor: Merkur Futur. A very smooth shaver and comfortable head design especially for an adjustable. This is a large hefty razor coming in at 120g which adds to the efficiency. The unique topcap locking mechanism is tight and well designed, allowing you to snap the blade into place in seconds. The rounded edges make the razor very comfortable and smooth, but also make the adjustment tricky – do not attempt to hold by the topcap when adjusting the dial- you could slip and slice your finger. Instead hold the razor underneath the baseplate for safety. This adjustable razor starts at medium to aggressive and goes up from there. On the lowest setting I can get a very comfortable BBS shave, making it my top choice of the Merkur razors.
