I’ll be talking about two situations: firstly, when the school provides the accommodation for you and the other case when the school does not provide accommodation for you but gives you an allowance.

As some of you may already know, the school that I am in provides the accommodation.
The first thing that I spend on are utilities, then I get groceries. I shop at Carrefour and LULU Hypermarket and this can be expensive.

The cost of living in Dubai will be quite high for you if you drink alcohol. Alcohol here is quite expensive. There are, however, promotions such as ‘Ladies Nights’ and ‘Happy Hour’ where you can save a bit of money.

Beauty is the next thing that costs quite a lot and finding braiding hair here is a mission. Nails and eyelashes are also quite expensive. Especially if you do your nails at the salons in downtown – my advice would be to find places away from the central city.

Then I speak about when you do not have school accommodation.

There are a lot of things that you need to consider when looking for a place to stay. If you are looking to save on rent, you will have to consider living outside the main Emirates such as Dubai & Abu Dhabi. In addition to renting in Dubai, you will have to pay for utilities and Wifi. Wifi here is quite expensive.

Then for transport in Dubai, there are a lot of options for you to consider. Firstly, you can purchase a car which will be cheaper than most parts. The second option would be to rent a car. Another option for transport would be for you to ride the Dubai Metro. This is a cheaper public option together with bus.

You also need to think thoroughly about where your school will be located and whether that location will allow you the opportunity to do the things that you want to do. The cost of living is generally high in Dubai and in Abu Dhabi compared to the other Emirates. If it is your first time coming to the UAE – I would highly recommend you choose a location outside of the main cities if you are looking to save.
