Hengyang, Hunan's second-largest city, is located in south-central Hunan Province, with the Xiang River flowing through it. Mount Heng, one of the Five Great Mountains of China, is situated to its south, and the city's name derives from the ancient saying, "When wild geese fly south, they rest their wings here." It governs five districts, five counties, and two county-level cities, covering an area of 15,300 km² and with a population of approximately 8 million. The Beijing-Guangzhou and Xiang-Guangxi railways intersect here, forming a high-speed rail hub, and the Xiang River's thousand-ton-class waterway connects the city to the sea, giving it a superior geographical location. Its industries include leading companies such as Tebian Electric, Hengyang Steel, and Kingboard, with its power transmission and transformation equipment, salt and brine chemical industry, and non-ferrous metal processing being nationally renowned. Agriculture is known for its production of oil tea, Xiang lotus, and yellow chicken. Hengyang's Xiang cuisine is spicy, flavorful, and rich, with its rice noodles, river snails, and Hengshan tofu being famous. The Shigu Academy has a thousand-year history of continuous learning; the hometowns of Cai Lun, Wang Chuanshan, and Luo Ronghuan are all located here; and the Battle of Hengyang during the War of Resistance against Japan, where a smaller force fought against a larger one, is hailed as the "Eastern Battle of Moscow." The city is nestled amidst mountains and rivers; the clouds of Mount Heng, the clear mist of Mount Goulu, the misty rain of Yanfeng Peak, and the landscapes of Shigu constitute the "Eight Scenic Spots of Hengyang." Today, climbing Yanfeng Peak offers views of modern skyscrapers alongside ancient pagodas, and a night cruise along the Xiang River reveals a dazzling display of lights. Hengyang people are known for their fiery and straightforward personalities, and their dialect features a distinctive trilled "r." After enjoying a bowl of rice noodles on the street, they readily express their "dare to be first" spirit.
