Imagine that your closest relative is in cardiac arrest. They need urgent medical help. You call 999 and the ambulance crew arrive at your door - standing there with the skills, drugs, defibrillator that’s needed. Ready to administer life-saving CPR. But one of them is a former drug addict with 33 criminal convictions. They’ve lied, stolen and spent time in prison. Would you let them treat your mother? Your father? Your child? Kate Morrissey shares her most vulnerable moments in this brutally honest talk; confronting the divisive issue of rehabilitation and why we need to do better. Kate is a senior programme manager for NHS England, leading a national programme on improving mental health in secure and detained settings. Kate also leads on the care after custody initiatives (RECONNECT), focussing on pathways of care out of custodial settings. She is a champion for the views of service users across community, prison and immigration removal settings, ensuring they are involved in the development of services. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
