ASARA BOARD GAME Review After 50+ Plays - EP21: A Kramer & Kiesling Hidden Gem Worker Placement Game

RULES CLARIFICATIONS: This is not a tutorial video, but I wanted to clarify the end-of-round scenario. Play continues until all players play all their cards. Some players might have more cards to play than others, so players without cards are skipped until the round ends. At the end of the round, the board is reset by refilling the market spots with new tower sections from the respective stacks, removing all worker cards from the board and shuffling the deck together, and finally re-dealing 7 cards to each player (or 8 cards in a 3p game, 9 cards in a 2p game). House of Spies: The first player to go here pays $3, chooses ONE stack of tower sections (either the bases, tops, or one of the mid sections), looks through that stack, and purchases ONE tower section by also paying the color cost. They must announce to the players which piece they purchased. The second player to visit the House Of Spies must first follow suit as usual, then pays $5 to do that same action of looking through a stack.

EPISODE 21 features a full review of ASARA from 2010 by Kramer & Kiesling. This game epitomizes what I consider an "undiscovered game" worthy of featuring here. It's smooth & easy to learn, quick to play, but still provides a deep and tense worker placement experience while playing in 45 minutes with 4 players! It looks beautiful on the table with Franz Vohwinkel's artistic touch and uniquely shaped game board, and it's made by a very well known group of people (designers/artist/company). Also, it's over 10 years old and only got 1 reprint in 2012. After that, it got completely buried in the modern board game tsunami. Asara is a game that never gets old for us. My wife even has this game in her top 10 of all time! We have logged 67 plays since 2016, and we continue to return to this game year after year. We enjoy this game because of its quick & smooth gameplay, easy rules, agonizing decisions, and accessibility to all types of gamers. Although it's a must-play at 4 players only, give this game a few plays at 4p, and I think you'll see why we love it so much!
