Meghann Whattam grew up watching Formula 1 and that progressed to a passion for endurance racing. She found it fascinating how the car has to last 24 hours which is something that we can’t even do ourselves. In this video, we see Meghann at Oxford Brookes University’s autolab and follow her and the other Oxford Brookes Racing team as they compete in Formula Student at Silverstone. Oxford Brookes Racing has been the leading UK university team in Formula Student competition for two years running – and internationally, they are the second best team. Every year, students taking part in Oxford Brookes Racing design and manufacture their own single seater race car which they race in engineering design competitions across the world including the annual Formula Student at Silverstone.

Meghann chose Oxford Brookes as a place to study because of the university’s location in the heart of Britain’s Motorsport Valley. She says that everything she needed was within an hour’s drive. She also found the university’s strong industry links really valuable because it gives you an opportunity to develop yourself as an engineer whilst studying.

Many of Meghann’s co-students took an industry placement year. She chose a three-year course and is now working at Honda in Milton Keynes for a year, after which she will return to Oxford Brookes University to do a master’s degree in Motorsport Engineering.
