Vauxhall Astra G fuel pump relay bypass

Описание к видео Vauxhall Astra G fuel pump relay bypass

Astra G on a 51 plate has had problems with engine cutting out when warming up from a cold start,
The engine would run for about 10 to 15 minutes then just stall and not restart until cooled down leaving it for 15 mins, there are two pink relays the same in the relay box and was able to swap but made no difference, the engine would start and stall again!!
So on to google I went and trolling the forums, and like most forums there is plenty of keyboard mechanics to throw you in all the wrong direction so I made my mind up and ordered and replaced the fuel pump itself which is inside the tank, Easy to replace and very cheap.... £21... brand new too unlike Vauxhall price £125 + the Vodka & Tonic!!!
Which is just as well cuz if I’d have paid the VX price I’d be walking into my garage, placing my genitals on my work bench and beat them with a club hammer, because it’s not the pump!!!
Same thing happens, cuts out after 10 mins!! So back on to the forum sites I go... and I see ECU’s going bad and causing all sorts of problems and one is VX managed to mount the ECU on the engine? Which in time causes the ECU to fail through to much heat and vibration and one of the most common faults is the ECU loosing the earth to the FUEL PUMP RELAY and it causes the relay to go open circuit thus stopping the engine!!
One of the checks to clarify the ECU is a bit dodgy is remove your fuel pump relay and get a bridge wire and join pin 86 & 87 together and start your engine and wait for it to warm up and if it doesn’t stall your looking at a failed ECU!! So now your looking at the part on your car that to buy and get programmed to your car is going to be worth MORE than your car! So here is what I did in the end. Remove the pink fuel pump relay and find pin number 85 on the relay that’s the earth I cut the wire to that pin 85 and joined a short length of wire from the relay plug and join it to ground on the car thus bypassing the ECU earth wire, this in turn bypasses the ECU and stops it switching the relay to open circuit and shutting down the engine!!

IMPORTANT NOTICE:- BECAUSE YOU ARE EARTHING THE RELAY STRAIGHT TO GROUND YOUR FUEL PUMP WILL START WORKING WHEN YOU SWITCH YOUR IGNITION ON AND THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND WILL NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL YOU SWITCH OFF OR CUT THE POWER TO THE PUMP
It is possible to buy a inertia cut off switch so if you have an accident the inertia switch will cut the power to the pump, commonly fitted to the old fords and Renaults you can get these cheap on eBay, rally cars and kit cars have them fitted too.
THIS BYPASS MOD WAS CARRIED OUT BY ME AND I RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU ARE NOT MECHANICALLY TRAINED I WOULD GET A PROFESSIONAL CAR MECHANIC OR AUTO ELECTRICIAN TO ADVISE YOU.
