TEDxTempleU - Daud Watts - Youth: Changing the Face of Africa

DAUD MALIK WATTS is the founding faculty advisor of Temple University SEAL, the Society of Emerging African Leaders, and has been an adjunct professor in the university's African American Studies department since 2002, specializing in Africana History.

In his TEDxTalk, Professor Daud Watts challenges the perception of Africa as a small, monolithic, and insignificant society and empowers the audience to be a part of the youth movement that will change the face of Africa today and in the future. He does this by discussing the demographics of Africa, from its misrepresentation of its size on many geographical projections, to the different cultures and resources that exist in the many regions of Africa, to the misconceptions that Africa is 'years behind' the rest of the world. It is the younger generation, he argues, that will face the most challenges, but who must also rise up to meet them to help change the face of Africa.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
