猿石・鬼の俎（まないた）・鬼の雪隠（せっちん）・亀石の不思議な表情を見ながら、川原寺跡を通り橘寺に着きます。この聖徳太子の生誕地でいつもお昼になります。境内の面白い二面石を見て、裏から出ますと、ひんやりとした風が心地よい飛鳥川のほとりです。「采女の袖吹きかへす明日香風　都を遠みいたずらに吹く」　飛鳥への愛惜の情は、今の私たちの心にも、通ずるものがあるように思えます。石舞台から大化の改新の舞台になった伝・板蓋宮跡へ、歴史のロマンがあります。大和の三山に囲まれた静かな里は、かつての栄光を思い起こし、より感傷的になります。

Descriptive of the ancient landscape of Asuka, a region in the central part of the Nara district in Japan, this delicate yet noble work beautifully captures a sense of antiquity. Strong folk inspired melodic lines are featured within a clearly defined orchestration. An excellent work to help develop clear wind sonorities and introduce students to a non-Western musical sense of place in much of the same way English folk music has been captured in many classic band works.
