Do THESE Jobs In November To Prepare Your Garden For Winter!

Описание к видео Do THESE Jobs In November To Prepare Your Garden For Winter!

November is full of jobs that can be done to prepare the vegetable garden for the winter ahead. Whether you have a garden, big or small, or an allotment, there are lots of things to be done this month to prepare for the cold season, which will also make things easier for next spring too. There are also some vegetables/fruits we can plant for winter, too. Such as garlic, onions, and brassicas such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, and kale.

Here's a list of the things i mentioned in the video, if you'd like to come back to them later:

1) Start incorporating manures into your beds to rot over winter and dig in next spring.

2) Start clearing crops which have come to an end. Now is the time to start putting your beds... to bed for the winter. Whilst with some other beds, prepare them for planting over wintering crops if you're doing this.

3) Have a good tidy up. Im tidying my shed for the winter as it's gotten quite messy this year. I'm clearing any rubbish that's gathered on my plot. Bamboo canes are being cleaned and put away in the poly where its dry. Tools cleaned and put in the shed, too. Give those dirty pots a quick wash and put them away. Another job I like to do is put netting over my pond to stop leaves from getting in, there are a lot of trees nearby.

5) Here in the UK winters can be very wet, so I wood chip my paths in the winter to help keep my feet dry.

4) Start building your compost heaps for winter. With lots of material to clear in the garden, there will be plenty available to get your compost bins filled.

5) Remember to keep de weeding! Weeds will still be growing rapidly well into the autumn months.

6) With crops finishing, some may have produced seed.
You may want to save those seeds to plant next year. Beans, sunflower, sweet pea, tomatoes, wild flowers such as borage and cornflower, are just a few of the things which I often save seeds from to plant next year.

6) Start cleaning your greenhouse, and tools ready for the winter. Disease can over winter in the warmth of a greenhouse in winter.

7) Start planning your garden or allotment for next year. I've got my seed catalogue here (not affiliated) to place my seed orders for next year. I'm also organising my seed storage box and removing old seeds too and figuring out which seeds I need to order. I also like to draw a rough layout for next year and plan what I'm growing where, and I grow crops in different beds each year.

8) Winter is the perfect time for getting those diy projects done, too. The garden is sleeping, so it's far less busy. That allows time to get stuck in to diy. I'm getting raised beds built and I'll be getting some pallet compost pays built on the new allotment over the winter too! I built this strawberry cage, this pallet workbench during the winter.

9) Get your autumn sweet peas sown, garlic planted, and spring bulbs planted.

10) Feed the wildlife! Put bird feeders out for the winter.

11) start making leaf mould. Collect leaves and leave them in a pile to break down over 2 years. As they take around 2 years, leave them somewhere out of the way.
