This is inside the Majakka ('lighthouse'), the tallest residential building (or high-rise residential building) and tallest building in Helsinki, and Finland. It is also the first real skyscraper in Finland, as the previous tallest buildings are no taller than 28 floors (Cirrus Residential Tower, Vuosaari/Nordsjö 2006 (Filmed in 2014), Niittyhuippu Residential Tower, Niittykumpu / Ängskulla (Filmed on 26th May 2020), 2016 and SOKOS Hotel Torni, Tampere/Tammerfors, 2014).
These elevators are the fastest residential elevators in Finland, running at a maximum speed of 5 meters per second. Only the elevators at Näsinneula Observation tower (1971) in Särkänniemi Amusement Park in Tampere / Tammerfors run even faster, at a maximum speed of 6 meters per second, now being replaced by KONE during 2020 again, after having been modernized by OTIS in 1997.
There is a big terrace and facilities for parties and a jacuzzi on the 33rd floor, and there is a separate elevator that serves the 34th and 35th floors (As seen in the beginning of this video). The architect of the tower is Pekka Helin, the architecture firm of the building is Arkkitehtitoimisto Pekka Helin & Co and the main contractor is SRV.
Standing at a total of 38 floors (35 above ground and 3 basement floors) and 134 meters tall, it is also second-tallest tower in the Nordic countries, after the Turning Torso tower in Malmö, Sweden. There are 282 apartments in the tower, ranging from 36 to 196 square meters in size.
When completed by 2027, the tallest tower at Trigoni in Pasila / Böle, will be even taller, with 52 floors, possibly becoming the new tallest skyscraper in the Nordic countries. By 2023, a hotel tower (by Kämp group) should be constructed at the Keilaniemi / Kägeludden business district in Espoo/Esbo, which will be around the same height as this one, Majakka in Kalasatama / Fiskehamnen.
The tower was completed on 25th November 2019, when the first tenants moved into the building, after a delay due to water damage. The 5th floor has a garden open to the public. The tower is conjoined with the Redi shopping centre and the Kalasatama metro station. The complex will include 7 other residential towers, as well as a hotel and offices, estimated to be completed in 2023. Though none of them will be as tall as the Majakka. The whole district is expected to be completed by 2030-35, and a tram line between Kalasatama/Fiskehamnen and Pasila/Böle is to be constructed by Autumn 2024. The next skyscraper in Kalasatama / Fiskehamnen to be completed will be Loisto, under construction since 2019 and due to be completed in November 2021, with 32 floors, so slightly lower than Majakka. Possibly, it will have the same type of High-speed KONE elevators, but installed in 2020.
