How to service a Kia Rio 1.25 liter, generation III (UB) model years 2012-2017 .

Many Kia and Hyundai cars use the G4LA 1,25 litre CVVT engine and in this video a basic service covering the following is made:

1:12. Draining the engine oil.

3:33. Oil filter replacement, and how to remove an oil filter that is stuck. A “chain socket” did the job quite easily. A Mann filter type W 7023 was used.

7:24. Filling engine oil. Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 was used.

8:52. Draining the transmission oil. A word of wisdom is to check that the filling plug isn't stuck before draining the oil.

12:12. Filling transmission oil. Mobil Mobilube SHC 75W-90 was used.

15:57. Auxiliary belt replacement. A Bosch multi V belt 1212 mm long, number 1 987 948 494 was used. Cars without AC have a shorter 890 mm belt.

19:58. Engine air filter replacement. A Mann filter C 25 013 was used.

21:19. Spark plug replacement. NGK LKR6D-10E was used.

22:00. Spark plug gap measurement. A new plug should have a 0.9 mm gap.

31:00. Cabin “HVAC” air filter replacement. A Mann filter CUK 2336 with carbon was used.

The engine has a timing chain so no timing belt service is needed.
