The first lesson of introduction to fencing. Here you will find out for sure thanks to our tests whether you are right-handed or left-handed.

This is very important when an athlete knows for sure at the start of his career which hand is most convenient for him to fence. I have seen many cases when a natural right-hander was retrained into a left-hander and a lot of problems happened because of this. The potential of a fencer was not fully revealed only because of a simple mistake at the very beginning.

Some people mistakenly think that left-handers are more uncomfortable rivals and have an advantage over right-handers. This is a myth. It doesn't really matter. Maybe a left-handed athlete will win more often at the start of his career, but it will take a year or two and the forces will equalize. And then the fencer who is more comfortable standing in his native fencing position will come first.

To develop your sports career as quickly and productively as possible, you need to know exactly which hand you have leading. To do this, I have 5 exercises that should accurately determine the armed hand and the side of the fencing stance. I learned these tests from psychology, which I studied at the University of Sports.

1 test.
Try putting your hands in a lock right now without preparation. The test should be performed quickly, without preparation. It is believed that right—handed people have the thumb of their right hand on top, left-handed people have the left.
You did it perfectly, remember the result or write it down.

2 test.
Now imagine that you have an imaginary phone ringing right now and you urgently need to answer it. Answer the call, do it immediately, take the phone and put it to your ear. Which hand did you use to pick up the phone? If your hand is left, then you are left-handed, if right, then, respectively, you are right-handed. You did well! Write down or remember this result.

3 test.
Now sit on a chair or on a ladder and cross one leg over the other. Everything is quite simple here, which leg will refuse from above, then this is your leading side.

4 test.
Fold your arms over your chest, as psychologists say in a closed position, like this. For left-handers, the left hand will wrap around the right forearm and vice versa for right-handers, the right hand will wrap around the left forearm.

5 test
Now give yourself an applause. Look now which brush was higher? Left, or right? If you're left hand higher, then you're left-handed, and if you're right hand higher, then you're right-handed. Write down the last result and now put them all together.

A higher score in either direction means your main hand and, accordingly, your left or right fencing position. Like that. It may be that in some of the actions I have suggested, your main hand does not play a special role. I'm more right-handed than left-handed. I fence with my left, write with my right, brush my teeth with my left, eat with my right. Everything is in disarray for me. Maybe I would have achieved great results if I had been fencing with my right hand, who knows?
