William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery Tour

Описание к видео William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery Tour

Have you wanted to attend a tour of the nation’s largest and most sustainable sport fish hatchery, the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH), located in Anchorage, Alaska? If so, this video is for you!

Join hatchery staff as we highlight the 6 major fish rearing areas within the hatchery, and tell you about the advanced fish life support systems in the facility that allow for production of over 4 million fish per year to support sport fish enhancement throughout the state.

Note that multiple spawning techniques are used to get eggs from fish. Rainbow trout and Arctic char are "air spawned", which you'll see in the video. These species can spawn multiple times in their lives! Salmon, like the Chinook and coho, only spawn once and die. For those species, we humanely dispatch the fish prior to removing eggs. You'll see this in the short clip with us "cut spawning" the Chinook salmon. All salmon carcasses are then donated to help feed animals at multiple locations (read more about it here: http://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?...)
