P-47 The Freedom Fighter Arcade Archive Playthrough on PlayStation 4 with 2 loops (PS4) [4K60]

Full gameplay, longplay, playthrough, walkthrough and guide to the arcade game P-47 The Freedom Fighter or P-47 The Phantom Fighter in some regions. Before the days of the danmaku style shooters which filled the screen full of patterned bullets, shooters started off as a far more relaxed pace before ramping up over time. Jaleco 1988 shoot'em up P-47 The Freedom Fighter was one very much in the old school class, named after the plane of the same name the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.

As you expected from the plane used, in the game P-47 is set around the 940s and has you taking on tanks, planes and ships from that era. The game takes place over eight stages each set in different locations, the impressive sunset of stage two and the train and battleship bosses are highlights of the game. As is the rainstorm seen on stage eight, while it's far to say a lot of the games assets are reused with most of the bosses being fought twice. P-47 The Freedom Fighter is quite a short game and doesn't outstay its welcome, that said the game seems to loop endlessly on finishing it. We quit on the start of the third loops, the only ending is the game over screen.

Overall a well balance shooter that slowly ramps up the difficulty, by the second loop the game plays more like a danmaku with some later stages filling the screen with enemies and bullets. There just something about these older shooters that don't require pixel perfect hit box dodging that makes them a better game in the genre than later examples. P-47 The Freedom Fighter also got a late sequel in 1995 called P-47 Aces and more recently in 2022 exA-Arcadia released P-47 Aces Mark II.
