Bouzouki reels: The Concertina, The Earl's Chair, The Wind that Shakes the Barley

Here's three reels that to me taste like they are brothers. The Concertina (is there a tune called The Bouzouki? if so I will learn it on the concertina!), The Earl's Chair, and The Wind that Shakes the Barley all feel like pipes tunes to me, sounding best with a simple low D drone. Which of course make them ideal for the bouzouki!

If you listen closely, you'll hear me attempt a triplet (or whatever it's called, a plectrum roll, played entirely with the right hand) on the F-sharp in the second bar of the Earl's Chair. I've been practising those but at this speed they're still beyond me. To be honest I like the sound of left-hand rolls (basically a very, very subtle pull-off in between two regular picked notes) much better, but so far I've only been able to learn those on open strings and the first finger. I haven't mastered the fiddle-style pinky tap yet - in fact, I'm not sure it's feasible on the bouzouki at all, with the double course and the much heavier strings. The banjo-style plectrum roll, of course, works on any fret, but to me it quickly sounds like a banjo player holding a bouzouki. Too sharp, too loud, too noisy. Playing it both subtle and fast is the trick. I'll let you know when I get there!

For those interested: the instrument is a Fylde longscale archtop bouzouki tuned G,DAd.
