The MESA/Boogie Fillmore 50 is a 50-watt, 2-channel tube amp that spans three decades of tone touchstones, from ’60s grit and shimmer to ’70s crunch and roar to ’80s wailing saturation. Whatever era you want to work with, you don’t have to compromise your sound by turning down for supper-club gigs, because the Fillmore 50’s half-power switch lowers the level but keeps the tone.

“The Fillmore series began as a California Tweed-style amp, but we saw an opportunity to expand the tweed architecture far beyond what the California Tweed concept offers,” says Doug West, director of the MESA/Boogie Tone Lab. “That’s how the Fillmore’s three modes came about. The Clean mode has a little more headroom than your normal tweed amp, while the Drive mode starts clean enough for chording, but can go up to a traditional crunch rhythm sound. Finally, Hi mode is focused, compressed and liquid feeling so it can go from heavy rhythms to soloing.”

The Fillmore 50 comes in a 1x12 combo with a Celestion Black Shadow Custom 90 speaker, or as a head. Both models include a buffered, series effects loop and a tube-driven spring reverb. The Fillmore series may evoke flower power and San Francisco ballrooms pulsing with psychedelic light shows, but these amps are built tough with marine-grade Baltic birch to survive years of brutal touring.
