Keeping a short angle at the elbows when running, will allow you to swing your arms from your shoulders efficiently in a 'short lever' position. This will help them swing faster with less effort. As your arm swing helps to set the rhythm for your legs, maintaining an efficient running arm swing will help you maintain a fast running cadence.
