The current generation of the Toyota Fortuner continues to utilize the brand's IMV platform, featuring a body-on-frame chassis with a longitudinal engine layout. The base 4x2 trims of this SUV are rear-wheel drive, while the top-tier variants include a switchable 4x4 system, controlled via a cabin dial. Notably, only the models equipped with 2.8-liter engines offer the 4x4 option; the 2.4-liter diesel engine variants are strictly rear-wheel drive.

The 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV engine produces 148 hp and 400 Nm of torque, while the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine delivers an impressive 201 hp and 500 Nm of torque, marking a significant improvement over previous figures. Both engines are inline-4 cylinders with 16 valves, dual overhead camshafts, and feature a Variable Nozzle Turbo with an intercooler positioned at the front of the vehicle.

The Fortuner's chassis features a double-wishbone front suspension and a multilink rear suspension, both fully independent for an improved ride quality. Additionally, it is equipped with ventilated disc brakes all around. Wheel sizes vary by trim: the G variants come with 17-inch wheels, while the V variants and higher trims are fitted with 18-inch wheels. The LTD trim boasts a distinctive set of 18-inch machine-cut finish wheels.

The 6-speed automatic transmission operates smoothly, with seamless gear shifts. A standout feature of the Fortuner is its exceptional NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) insulation, which effectively minimizes cabin noise.

With its facelift, the Toyota Fortuner is now equipped with an array of modern tech features that position this midsize SUV competitively within its segment. Standard across all models is a 7 or 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The G variants come with a standard backup camera, while the V variants and higher trims are equipped with Toyota’s Panoramic View camera. The top-tier trims boast a premium 9-speaker JBL audio system for an enhanced listening experience. Additionally, proximity sensors are standard across all models.

The Toyota Fortuner offers two distinct exterior configurations. The G, V, and Q variants have an updated yet familiar appearance, featuring new grilles and bumpers at both the front and rear. These models now come standard with Bi-beam LED headlamps, which were previously exclusive to the top-tier models.

All Fortuner models are equipped with driver, front passenger, and knee airbags. The LTD trim level goes further by including side and curtain shield airbags, bringing the total to seven airbags in the highest trim. The LTD trims also feature Toyota Safety Sense, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and a pre-collision warning system.

Additional safety features across all Fortuner models include ABS with EBD and brake assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, hill-start assist control, and for the 4x4 LTD, downhill assist control. Other safety provisions consist of 3-point seatbelts for all occupants, driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders, child lock doors, Toyota's vehicle security system, an engine immobilizer, a horn, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
