Today's video is part 2 of the Top of descend series where we will discuss which factors affect your descent.

It is important to know which factors affect your descend because you need to have a good situational awareness regarding your vertical profile.

If you are correct or low on the profile is not a big deal, however, you want to avoid being above the profile and end up in a high energy situation.

The Jet planes, compared to the propeller Aircraft have wings that produce less drug, so this type of wings are very efficient during the cruise, however, it is difficult to slow a jet plane down due to its aerodynamic efficiency.

From the Top Of descend video made yesterday we analyse an ideal scenario where there was only one aircraft in the sky, as you can imagine in real life there might be many factors that make your Top of descend position to change.

One factor is the pilot error, if you don’t plan properly you will find yourself in a situation where you will have fewer track miles than expected.
Air Traffic Controllers, might ask you to start your descend earlier or later than your top of descend depending on the traffic.
WInd, the tailwind will make your top of descend to move further away from your airport.
Aircraft weight, the heavier your aircraft the shallower will be your descent.

These are the most common factors that can affect your descent, thus making your top of descend earlier or later than the one you calculated.
