The Future of Texas Downtowns: Who are downtowns for?

Описание к видео The Future of Texas Downtowns: Who are downtowns for?

The future of Texas downtowns stands at a crossroads. In the wake of the pandemic and the rise of remote work, major Texas cities — Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston — are considering significant changes to downtown spaces, reimagining them to address the community’s housing and economic development needs. However, these transformative ideas face financial, developmental and policy challenges.

The Texas Tribune and the LBJ School of Public Affairs Urban Lab hosted an event at the Bass Lecture Hall, in the LBJ School Of Public Affairs on UT-Austin’s campus, Thursday, April 18.

Joshua Fechter, the Tribune’s urban affairs reporter, talked with experts about the challenges and opportunities facing Texas downtowns. In-person attendees will then participate in solutions-focused conversations facilitated by LBJ Urban Lab leadership and students.

Speakers include:
Trish DeBerry, president and CEO, Centro San Antonio
Jenell Moffett, chief impact officer at Downtown Austin Alliance
Jennifer Scripps, president and CEO, Downtown Dallas, Inc.
Steven Pedigo, director, LBJ Urban Lab, University of Austin at Texas
