Long story short, American Airlines paid me $3,800 for my lost/stolen luggage. They also paid me an additional $1,000 via a voucher for future air travel for myself, friends, or family. It took 175 days (almost 6 months) of fighting, but in the end, they paid me what I was owed. The luggage was lost on December 4, during a ski trip with my family. I'm going to try to make a follow up video explaining the process I went through and what worked for me. I've seen several other videos on the topic, but they all seem to be at least a year old, so hopefully this can help someone else who is going through the same thing.
