Why You Should Wear Pink This Month | Brickology Nursing Humor

Scrubs are an important part of a nurse’s life. They’re just like the clothes you wear daily, and even though scrubs may come off as boring, they offer the nurse (or any healthcare worker) the opportunity to express themselves. Some nurses have scrubs for every occasion: Christmas, Halloween, Easter, a Tuesday… you name it.

Which brings me to October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the color pink.

This video is based off a true happening. You see, I actually DO own a set of pink scrubs, and I did wear them a few times (lost a bet). Many heads were turned, with a kid staring at me for a few minutes before blurting out, “You’re REALLY pink.”

On one particular day when I wore the pinks, I had to take a baby for an MRI. The workers had a good laugh at my expense and I started to feel VERY self conscious about my appearance... then their supervisor came in and complimented my scrubs. She commented on how it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month and how astute I was to wear pink. “More people should do this,” she said as she left.

I was all, “SUPER COOL!”

That didn’t stop the laughter, though. I’ll post a picture of me in the pinks someday. I’m sure you’ll all get a kick out of it.

So you see, scrubs are an important part of a nurse’s life. If you’re a nurse, how many pairs of scrubs do you own? If you’re not a nurse, do you own anything pink to wear this month?

According to the World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide with about 1 in 8 women in the US developing it in her lifetime. Check with your physician for check-up guidelines and visit nationalbreastcancer.org for more information. ☺️
