We all have seen ants moving in a queue. A Pheromones named chemical is released by these ants from their abdomen, and then they sense the fragrance of this chemical to follow each other. But is there any obligation that disallows these ants to choose their own arbitrary path? Let's understand this mystery with the help of 3D Animation.

An ant releases the trail pheromones from the Dufour's gland present in their abdomen. And then rest of the ants follow each other by sensing this trail of pheromones with the help of two Maxillary Palps present in front of their heads.

There are two main reasons why pheromones chemical is released by ants.

The first is to share the location of a food source. When worker ants discover a food source, they keep releasing this trail pheromones while returning to their nest. This helps rest of the ants of the colony to reach the food source by sensing the pheromones and transport it to their respective nests. An important thing is that this pheromones keeps on evaporating, so ants have to release this pheromones while moving toward the food source and returning back in order to avoid the disruption of the trail.
