In ayurveda there are 4 different types of agni. The 4 different type of agni are Samagni, Tikshnagni, Mandagni and Vishmagni.

Samagni is balanced agni and is the ideal state.

Tikshnagni is high agni and can lead to an overactive digestive system. This agni is associated with the pitta dosha and can lead to imbalance in the body or mind.

Mandagni is low agni and is experienced when you have an underactive digestive system. This agni is associated with the kapha dosha and can lead to imbalance in the body and mind.

Vishmagni is variable agni and is experienced with an irregular digestive system. This agni is associated with vata dosha and can lead to imbalance in the body and mind.

Weak digestive system symptoms to look for to identify if you are experiencing an imbalance in the body or mind include:

Clogged channels
Indigestion
Heartburn / acid reflux
Mental confusion
Fatigue
Lethargy or dull mind

You can bring your agni back into balance by incorporating the following suggestions:

Wait at least 3 hours in between meals
Avoid snacking during the day
Eat cooked foods to aid digestion
Include all 6 tastes into each meal
Chew your food until even consistency
Drink warm water or tea throughout the day to stimulate agni

Stay lit agni,
Clare
