Insieme alla troupe ho intrapreso un lungo viaggio che dalla Sardegna mi ha condotto in questa lontana isola baltica, con l’obiettivo di conoscere la sua gente, il loro passato storico e cogliere gli aspetti più intimi dell’ambiente naturale.
Raggiungo l’isola quando è appena terminata l’estate.
Il documentario offre un breve ma intenso ritratto della piccola e preziosa città di Visby che, oltre ad essere il capoluogo di Gotland, è anche la città storica più importante di tutta la Svezia, tanto da aver indotto l’Unesco ad inserire l’intera città di Visby nella lista dei beni patrimonio dell’umanità.
Qui a Gotland prese vita la serie televisiva che prese il nome della sua protagonista, Pippi Calzelunghe.
L’emozione è grande nel filmare in questo set dove circa quarant’anni fa le cineprese hanno impresso le immagini con la dolce terribile peste, la bambina che ha entusiasmato e intrattenuto milioni di altri bambini in tutto il mondo.
Ma Gotland è famosa nel mondo del cinema anche per un altro personaggio che diede lustro a questa terra.
Scopriamo la piccola isola di Faro a nord di Gotland, brulla, desolata, quasi irreale, dove la sua luce cosi particolare ha stimolato la fantasia del regista Ingmar Bergman che qui ha girato alcuni dei suoi film più famosi, per i quali ricevette l’oscar del cinema.
Gotland è anche l’unico luogo di tutta la Svezia dove si trova il tartufo nero,
il filmato documenta la ricerca con i cani e la lavorazione curata da due donne.
Ricordando antiche saghe nordiche e il tempo in cui i vichinghi dominavano i mari, scrutiamo il sito di Gannarve e le piccole isole di Lila e Stora Karlso, note per la natura straordinaria e per le migliaia di uccelli che popolano le loro coste.
Il documentario culmina con Lars Jonsson, il più importante pittore di uccelli in Europa ed uno dei più famosi nel mondo che, mentre racconta alcuni aspetti della sua vita, le passioni, l’arte, l’amore per gli uccelli e la natura, ci mostra alcuni dei suoi dipinti più famosi.
Forse ho potuto capire la storia millenaria, la natura cosi particolare e la vita di quest’isola e della sua gente perché anch’io sono un isolano, fortemente attaccato ai profumi della mia terra circondata dal mare, la Sardegna, cosi come lo sono gli abitanti di Gotland, questa bella terra emersa nel cuore del Baltico.
Together with the troupe, I embarked on a long journey that led me from Sardinia to this distant Baltic island, with the aim of getting to know its people, their historical past and grasping the most intimate aspects of the natural environment.
