The year is 50 B.C. All of Gaul but one tiny village has surrendered to Rome. And now Caesar has conquered even that final outpost, with all its inhabitants locked away in various parts of his vast empire! Asterix & Obelix XXL is the most impactful Asterix video game to date and has spawned several sequels, spin-offs, along with a still active community.
One of the many distinct creative decisions developer Etranges Libellules made once tasked with bringing Asterix games into the 3D era and the 21st century, was incorporating electronic dance, trance and rave elements into their soundtrack. Although this seemingly unfitting music has often been criticised, the score is as well thought-out as it is experimental when consciously observed. It has therefore become a classic among fans of the franchise and genre.
