In this lesson, we will spend about 15 minutes discussing civil rights. And then at the end, you are invited to take a short quiz and review some of the downloadable resources on this topic, including a copy of these slides, some great sample policies, procedures, and information about racial justice. Completing this lesson and the quiz will count towards 20 minutes of professional development and meet the annual civil rights training requirements for USDA Nutrition Programs.

The goal of this lesson is to learn and identify the general Civil Rights requirements in school nutrition programs and the reasons why attention to Civil Rights is so important.

We will also provide practical information to help ensure every child has equal access to our school meal programs, including topics related to civil rights signage, the USDA Non-Discrimination Statement, public notification, collection and use of student data, cultural flavors, customer service, inclusive environments, special diets, and civil rights complaint procedures.
