Lagerpetidae: The Tree Climbing "Rabbit Reptiles" of the Triassic Period

Описание к видео Lagerpetidae: The Tree Climbing "Rabbit Reptiles" of the Triassic Period

The lagerpetids were a clade of small reptiles from the Triassic period. Their name means “rabbit reptiles”, in reference to sharing traits with rabbits and other specialized hoppers that suggest they were specialized for hopping as well. Unlike rabbits, lagerpetids are thought to have leap through the trees in search of insects. Lagerpetidae is notable for being one of the earliest branches of Ornithodira, the clade of reptiles that includes dinosaurs and pterosaurs. Specifically, they are the closest known relatives of the pterosaurs.
