UPPER DOLPO TREK, NEPAL - Part 2

Описание к видео UPPER DOLPO TREK, NEPAL - Part 2

This video is part 2 of my story of the Upper Dolpo Trek which I undertook in the far west of Nepal. This video shows the journey from the remote village of Saldang in Upper Dolpo, onwards across over the high Llyanta pass onto Dho Tarap, down to Dunai and back to the Airport at Juphal.

The Dolpo region is adjacent to the Tibetan Plateau and many of its people came across from this Tibetan region. Although it is now being visited by tourists, Upper Dolpo has maintained its natural beauty. This makes it an essential destination for trekkers who admire the value of the unspoilt beauty of this area. The Upper Dolpo Trek is in a restricted area that was only opened for tourism in 1989. It belongs to the Shey Phoksundo National Park. The Upper Dolpo trek goes above 4000 meters in many places with three 5000m passes to ascend and go over. This area still maintains many of the Tibetan influences and the Tibetan culture.

The Upper Dolpo trail starts by leaving a small airstrip at Juphal and passes through many settlements and villages. In the early stages of the trek you see views of the pine forests and winding mountain rivers. In the distance you will see the high snow-capped mountains, which hide the mighty Kang La pass. Be mesmerised by the blue colour of Shey Phoksundo Lake, which lies at 3600 meters above sea level. The Kang – La Pass connects the Phoksundo valley and Shey Gompa. The Kang – La Pass is the highest point of the Upper Dolpo trek where you may see the beautiful mountains and landscapes. The Upper Dolpo trek passes the monastery at Shey Gompa where you can rest and see spectacular views of crystal mountain.

Leaving Shey Gompa you then have to ascend another 5000m pass over the Sela La which is not quite a challenge as the Kang La. Once over you are then into the true area of Upper Dolpo in Saldang.

From leaving Saldang we headed to Rapa Gompa where we prepared for the following day were we go over the Llyanta Pass at 5220m. After our ascent over the pass we headed down to DhoTarap and had a fantastic meal. The trek continued down through Dolpo through deep gorges until we returned to the start at Dunai. After a couple of days rest we returned to Pokhara from Juphal whilst skipping along the Himalayas in the tiny plane.
