Tarikh Episode 689

In this episode Sonal talks about the history of kacchatheevu island. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (March 31,2024) once again attacked the Congress about its decision to “callously give away” the island of Katchatheevu. The prime minister’s post comes after documents obtained by BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai seemed to indicate that Congress never attached much importance to the tiny, uninhabited island.
Kachchatheevu is a small uninhabited island located in the Palk Strait between the southeastern coast of India and the northern coast of Sri Lanka. The island has been a subject of dispute between India and Sri Lanka for many years due to its strategic location and its implications for fishing rights and maritime boundaries.
In 1974, India ceded Kachchatheevu to Sri Lanka through a bilateral agreement, known as the Kachchatheevu Agreement. This agreement has been a contentious issue in Indian politics, particularly among Tamil Nadu fishermen who claim traditional fishing rights in the waters around the island.
The dispute over Kachchatheevu remains unresolved, and it continues to be a sensitive issue in India-Sri Lanka relations, particularly concerning fishing rights and the livelihoods of fishermen from both countries.

Did India gave it away?
