কোলকাতার খিদিরপুরে প্রাপ্ত জাল নোটের সূত্র ধরে উঠে এল কাপ্তেন মতির নাম। তাকে গ্রেফতার করে কোলকাতায় নিয়ে আসার উদ্দেশ্যে রওনা দিলেন গোয়েন্দা প্রিয়নাথ। কিন্তু বাখরগঞ্জের পিরোজপুর থানায় পৌঁছে শুনলেন, মতির নামে অসংখ্য অভিযোগ থাকা সত্ত্বেও আজ পর্যন্ত কোনও পুলিশ ইন্সপেক্টরের ক্ষমতা হয়নি তাকে গ্রেফতার করার। পিরোজপুরের ইন্সপেক্টরবাবু প্রিয়নাথকে প্রাণের ঝুঁকি না নিয়ে ফিরে যাওয়ার পরামর্শ দিলেন। কিন্তু প্রিয়নাথ রাজি হলেন না। এর পর যা ঘটল..................
