Aabpakhsh Date Palm Grove in Bushehr: The Largest Date Palm Grove in Iran

Bushehr is located north, south, and west along the Persian Gulf. Its semi-desert, warm climate makes it ideal for date palm growth. The province has over 39,000 hectares of date palm forests and six million date palms. Among the cities of Bushehr, the towns of Aabpakhsh and Dashtestan hold the record for the highest number of date palms and the most extensive groves.
Aabpakhsh Date Palm Grove in Bushehr has the longest palm-lined road in southern Iran. Its irrigation system, built by German engineers in 1941, is the oldest in the country. The palm groves are irrigated by the abundant waters of the Shapour and Dalaki rivers.
35% of the dates produced in Bushehr province come from Aabpakhsh, and as expected, most people's income in this region is derived from these groves. Various dates are harvested from these groves, with the most important types being Kabkab, Sheykhali, Berimi, Barhi, Haj Bagheri, Mahbubi, Shokri, Ghandi, and Gentar.
Interestingly, other regional souvenirs and handicrafts are also made from these groves. Palm tree sap, palm syrup, palm vinegar, and various hand-woven basketry products are just a few of the items produced from the sturdy date palms found throughout this southern region.
