Georgia makes Pet-Nat wines

We’ve been making pet-nat in Georgia?! 🤯

I bring you organically farmed Cloudland Vineyards and Winery located in Buford, 40 minutes from the city of Atlanta. Sean Wilborn, who was previously at Chateau Elan and Biltmore Estate, broke off to find a plot where he could make wine his own way.

This is clearly a new chapter for Georgia wine. My recent article for Eater on “Why don’t Atlanta restaurants serve Georgia wine?” ruffled some feathers, poked holes, and started dialogue about local wines nationwide. They are not considered farm produce and are rarely invited to the farm-to-table table.

Regional foods go with regional wines, we know this. Why we can’t do that in our own backyard is curious, especially when local winemakers, like Wilborn, are practicing regenerative, organic farming and minimal intervention.

Trust me when I say, shrimp and grits with a glass of Villard Blanc pet-nat is 😘🤌. Locality is always unique.
