Shadow Indigenous Australians Minister Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has voiced concern over the “lack of transparency” over a Treaty event in Victoria on the weekend.

Despite a national referendum rejecting an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, many states are taking it upon themselves to introduce a treaty and so-called truth-telling anyway.

Victoria over the weekend held a Treaty event billed as a public meeting in the Melbourne suburb of Greensborough.

However, the event has come under scrutiny after there appeared to be lots of secrecy around the event with media being blocked from entering.

“I mean, that should be the first red flag so far in this process. It should have been made public. It's a publicly funded event. This is going to affect all Victorians,” Ms Price told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“You can see, absolutely see the naivety from those attending but, you know, what's concerning is the lack of transparency in this process.

“We also know that the First Nations Assembly only had a 10 per cent voter turnout to elect its members. So can it legitimately say it is a representative body of Indigenous Victorians?”
