In the second part of this series, we look at the influence the people of Te Nehenehenui had on the appointment of the first Māori King, Pōtatau Te Wherowhero. We’ll also explore the tribal covenant Ngāti Maniapoto me Ōna Hapū Maha, that was established in a bid to unite the tribe, following the loss of several prominent rangatira. What impact did this have on the tribe and how are the values of this covenant helping to guide the iwi into the future?
