Grip Truck Extras is a new series we created aimed at the video production professional. Or the wannabe video professional, heh heh! Any production vehicle will have an inventory of gear and equipment that are relevant to the business of capturing film or video. This series is all about things you might not consider to be part of the compliment of an ordinary G&E package, but none the less you'll find these items to be essential as they will make your set life more productive and pleasant.

Cinematographer Jim Ross gives these short tips based upon his nearly 20 years in the production business.

Transcript:
Hi I’m cinematographer Jim Ross with Cinematix here on a scorching hot day in Atlanta. You know, big movie sets have all kinds of support people such as medics, mechanics, carpenters, even custodial staff. So when you need something from a baby wipe, to a bandaid, to a crowbar - chances are you are gonna find someone who has it. Most of the time I work on smaller productions that don't have the army of people and endless resources of a major motion picture. So I've learned that you need to rely on yourself to plan ahead and have things on hand that you need. I'm going to share of the things I’ve learned over my nearly 20 years in production in my new series “Grip Truck Extras”.

In less than 60 seconds I'll cover items that are outside the scope of what your grip and electric compliment would call for. But nevertheless you'll find them invaluable to keep on hand. This is relevant whether you have two 5-ton trucks like me, or work out of your car with a trunk full of production gear. This is also helpful for you filmmakers crewing your own gigs, and working your way into the business.

Making yourself more prepared benefits you on set by making your work easier and more pleasant, and also makes you indispensable to others and gets you the reputation of someone who is invaluable on gigs. So join me and be better prepared and indispensable on set.
